Who am I?

After attaining a BSc Degree in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of South Africa (Unisa), I commenced my professional career, working as an Actuarial assistant for insurance and reinsurance companies. I later embarked on a personal journey, which culminated in my pursuit of an Honours degree in psychology, also through UNISA; after which I completed a Masters in Clinical Psychology at the University of Cape Town (UCT).

On completing my Clinical Psychology studies, I completed a year-long internship at both Stikland Psychiatric Hospital and Tygerberg Hospital, as required to obtain professional accreditation with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). This structured internship entailed providing psychotherapy to both out- and admitted patients in therapeutic, child and adolescent psychiatry and medical wards.

The admitted patients in my care presented predominantly with personality disorders and acute psychosis, with their age and gender demographics being broad, including both male and female (adults, children and adolescents patients). Consistent with HPCSA accreditation requirements, my internship was followed by a calendar year of community service at the Mitchells Plain District Hospital, where I worked with adult, adolescent and child patients admitted to the acute psychiatric observation, emergency, medical, ante-/post-natal/labour, and paediatric wards.

Neuropsychological and scholastic assessments constituted a key component of the responsibilities I performed throughout my clinical training. I also acquired medicolegal training by working within a Neuropsychology Private Practice in Cape Town. The professional experience I amassed, prior to pursuing clinical studies has equipped me with a razor-sharp focus and tenacity, underpinned by a deep compassion. Though rarely easy, therapy requires clients to be brave, bold and willing to be vulnerable: I provide a safe and confidential space for diagnostics, as well as adolescent and adult individual and group therapeutic work, which is life-changing and therefore a worthwhile personal investment.
